Olivia Wilde reportedly plans to return to the FOX medical drama series House M.D. this season after taking a leave of absence to shoot the sci-fi-western movie Cowboys & Aliens.
The 26-year-old actress also stars in the upcoming film TRON: Legacy alongside Jeff Bridges. She plays Remy “Thirteen” Hadley on House M.D., which is on its seventh season.
TRON: Legacy, the sequel of the 1982 movie TRON, hits theaters on December 17. Wilde plays a warrior who helps rebellious 27-year-old Sam Flynn, played by Garrett Hedlund, and his long-lost father Kevin Flynn, portrayed by Jeff Bridges and who was once known as the world’s leading video-game developer, battle a ruthless villain as they try to escape a digital universe.
Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens is set for release on July 29, 2011. Wilde plays a traveller who helps a rejected stranger, portrayed by James Bond actor Daniel Craig, and Harrison Ford’s character, a colonel who controls a small Arizona town, unite to battle invading aliens in 1873.
House executive producer Katie Jacobs has explained how the show will deal with Olivia Wilde’s absence.
Wilde, who plays Thirteen, will miss several episodes of the new season because she is working on the movie Cowboys & Aliens.
However, Jacobs told Fancast that House will include a storyline explaining Thirteen’s departure and eventual return.
“It’s linked to narrative,” she said. “When Thirteen does come back, it’s not like she’s just going to be sitting in the office doing a diagnosis. There’s a real reason why she had to leave – it’s surprising and juicy and it deepens her character and our understanding of her.”
The new season of House will premiere on September 20 on Fox.
Question: Please can you give us some House news that is not about Huddy? —Monica
Ausiello: Here’s something: Series creator David Shore confirms that they’re casting a new female doc to fill the temporary void left by Olivia Wilde. “We’re working on it,” he tells me. “There’s no definitive answer [but] it’s something we’re figuring out.”

From HD Report
House will be minus Thirteen when it returns next season.
Olivia Wilde is taking time off from the Fox hit to shoot a starring role in the big-budget sci-fi Western Cowboys & Aliens.
“Olivia will be there at the very beginning of the season, and then she will not be there for a period of time,” explains executive producer Katie Jacobs.
Production on the Jon Favreau-helmed Cowboys — which is set to get under way next month and continue through the summer — is expected to overlap with season 7 of House by at least two months. The film also stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Sam Rockwell. (Fun fact: Lost boy Damon Lindelof co-wrote the script with Fringe exec producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.)
“She had this opportunity and she was really excited about it,” says Jacobs. “We’re very proud of her and very happy for her.”
The seeds of Thirteen’s departure were planted in last night’s season finale when, in the final moments of the episode, the Huntington’s-afflicted doc announced that she was taking a leave of absence from Princeton Plainsboro.
“The two things — the dates that she was going to be away and the story line [we wanted to tell] — worked out,” says Jacobs. “When the story unfolds, it will [all make] sense.”
